National Nurses Week 2020
As we mark the beginning of National Nurses Week, we extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated nurses of this Department. In this especially difficult time for medical professionals across the globe, our nurses continue to not only come to work each day in a challenging correctional setting, but during a global health emergency, in order to provide needed care for patients.
As we face this unprecedented pandemic together, we are grateful to have some of the most devoted, brightest and caring nursing professionals working in our facilities across the state. Our nurses so often rise above the call of duty and do all they can to ensure their patients receive the best possible care. For that, we are profoundly appreciative.
While National Nurses Week is an incredible opportunity to recognize nurses everywhere, we do not limit our gratitude to one week each year. We are grateful to all medical professionals, both within DOCCS and in the community, who keep our staff and the incarcerated population healthy and well, so that we can continue to carry out the Department’s mission each and every day.
National Correctional Officers Week 2020
As we celebrate May 3 - 9, 2020, as National Correctional Officers Week, we would like to thank the hard-working men and women of the Department, who continue to perform their essential duties in this especially challenging time. Now more than ever, Correction Officers leave their homes and families each day knowing the risks they face while on the job, yet they do so selflessly, and away from the public eye, to ensure our facilities and communities are safe.
The current global health emergency has undoubtedly made this difficult job much more challenging, and so we enthusiastically applaud the Department’s Correction Officers for adapting and taking the necessary steps to keep each individual in our facilities healthy and safe. This includes those who have worked diligently to keep our industry programs operating securely, as the Department works to meet critical public health and safety needs through the manufacturing of hand sanitizer, surgical masks and other personal protective equipment.
While it is important to honor Correction Officers during this time, our appreciation is not limited to one week each year; we extend our gratitude to these dedicated individuals each and every day. As we continue to navigate this unprecedented time together, we thank all of DOCCS’ essential employees who have risen to the occasion to keep our facilities and area offices running. We could not carry out the Department’s mission without them.
