Shawangunk Correctional Facility is a maximum security level facility for males.

Visitation
Visitation information effective 01/01/2026
Visiting Days: Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays
Visiting Hours: 8:30AM to 2:15PM; Latest arrival time 1:45PM
Special Housing Unit Visiting Days & Hours: Incarcerated individuals in SHU custody are allowed one non-legal visit within a seven (7) day period during normal visitation hours. Each week starts on a Monday and ends on Sunday.
Visitation Schedule: An incarcerated individual can receive only one visit on the weekend, either Saturday OR Sunday. See attached schedule.
Number of Allowable Visits per Week: Two (2) days per week. Three (3) days upon approval in advance from the Tour 2 Watch Commander – based on distance from the facility.
Maximum Number of Visits per Day: There is no limit on the amount of visits an incarcerated individual can have on any given day, except when overcrowding conditions exist. If the visiting room is full, an additional visit for that day will not be allowed.
Maximum Number of Visitors per Visit: Three (3) visitors and one (1) child under the age of five (5) will be allowed to visit. The child must sit on an adult’s lap.
Visiting Room Overcrowding Policy: In the event that space considerations require termination of visits, the following procedure will be followed:
- Request voluntary termination from any visitor to end their visit.
- If no volunteers or space requirements still exist, local visits (visitors within 100 miles of the facility) will be terminated after three (3) hours of visitation on a first in, first out basis.
- If space requirements continue to exist, visits of incarcerated individuals whose family or friends traveled over 100 miles will be terminated after three (3) hours of visitation on a first in, first out basis.
Visits with special permission or incarcerated individuals who have not received a visit within 6 months will be given special consideration by the Superintendent or Officer of the day prior to termination.
