Registered Nurse 1/SG-18

Registered Nurses 1 coordinate and provide direct nursing care to incarcerated individuals, as well as offer clinical supervision and training to Graduate Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and direct care staff.  Incumbents conduct health assessments, prepare and implement nursing care plans, diagnose and treat individuals’ responses to actual, potential, or diagnosed health problems through nursing services, such as case-finding, health teaching and counseling, and the provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being.  Registered Nurses 1 consult on nursing matters with treatment teams prior to administering treatments and nursing procedures.  They will also serve as members of interdisciplinary health care teams and health-related committee.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess a license and current registration to practice nursing in New York State.

Registered Nurse 3 (Correctional Services)/SG-22

Registered Nurses 3 (Correctional Services) develop and present training programs related to providing quality health care to improve the knowledge, skills, and abilities of those responsible for the medical care and treatment of incarcerated individuals. Incumbents provide, instruct, supervise, and demonstrate nursing care and treatment procedures.  They work closely with Central Office to plan, develop, coordinate and present training using supervisory, nursing procedural, health service policy and administrative concepts.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess a license and current registration to practice nursing in New York State, a bachelor’s degree in nursing and three years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

Licensed Practical Nurse

Licensed Practical Nurse/SG-10

Licensed Practical Nurses work in hospitals or clinical settings where, using detailed standard procedures and as directed by physicians or registered nurses, they treat patients for a variety of physical maladies in order to assist in maintaining patient health, preventing and curing illness and injury and alleviating suffering.  

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess or be eligible to obtain a license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.

Nurse Practitioner

Nurse Practitioner (Adult, Community Health and Family)/SG-24

Nurse Practitioners provide primary, acute, and/or long-term care; perform physical exams; diagnose and treat illnesses and other health problems; and prescribe medications, medical tests, and treatments. 

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a New York State License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse; and certification by the New York State Education Department in a specialty area to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
