Division of Health Services

Overview

Health Services provides primary medical care at all DOCCS correctional facilities. In addition, we have physicians on call 24 hours, seven days a week to provide emergency care.  The Division contracts with specialty physicians and tertiary care hospitals to provide the highest levels of medical care available in New York. 

Mission

The mission of the Division of Health Services is to assure that all incarcerated individuals in the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision have access to medically necessary health and mental health care in order to protect their health and safety of the inmates, and the health and safety of staff and visitors.

Issues involving the care of an individual inmate are considered confidential and DOCCS is fully compliant with Federal HIPAA law. Individual with questions or concerns regarding an inmate under DOCCS care should contact the physical located at the correctional facility where the incarcerated individual resides.
